The collaborative single is the first track from Orbital’s forthcoming album Optical Delusion.
Electronic music duo Orbital joined forces with Sleaford Mods to produce Dirty Rat, a pulsating track infused with splashes of anger. Lyrically (and musically), the single reflects on the current political situation addressing both the rulers and voters.
“This track is a giant capital letter,” explains Orbital’s Paul Hartnoll. “Like in the Book of Kells, where the very first letter always gets the big treatment from the monk when he’s doing his illustrated borders”. Despite the references to Cabaret Voltaire and Scottish chart-toppers The Shamen, it conjures up the restless and intense energy of Nitzer Ebb.
Dirty Rat is not the first collaboration between Sleaford Mods and Orbital. The Hartnoll brothers did a version of the Mods’ I Don’t Rate You. The video for the single was directed by Luke Losey (Smiley) and shot in Leysdown-on-Sea on The Isle Of Sheppey.
Orbital’s new album Optical Delusion is set for release on 17 February 2023 and can be pre-ordered here.
